Footballs, Ice Cream & the Mighty Dollar

footballsBlue BellWell, here we go again.  Call us crazy, but we keep expecting accountability to change or at least hoping people will learn from prior mistakes and make a better decision the next time around.  The investigation into the New England Patriots football deflategate fiasco is still ongoing.  In a letter from the NFL’s Executive VP of football to Tom Brady, “The report established that there is substantial and credible evidence to conclude that you were at least generally aware of the actions of the Patriots’ employees involved in the deflation of the footballs and that it was unlikely that their actions were done without your knowledge.”

Really?!  Where’s the accountability in that? We certainly wouldn’t want the NFL to offend anyone!

The NFL continues to show what they value above all else – profits.

In a different matter, Texans have all been disappointed in our little creamery in Brenham, Texas.  For us, there is no other ice cream. So when several deaths from listeria were linked to Blue Bell’s plant in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Texans’ “only” source of ice cream was removed from the shelves.  Yes, we are upset at our ice cream being gone, but we are even more upset that Blue Bell executives knew about 17 findings of listeria dating back to 2013 and did not report them as required.  Not until people started getting sick or even dying did execs change their tune.  Those same execs even went so far as to say that the steps they took to address the listeria findings were “not adequate”.  Really?! Where’s the accountability in that?

NFL and CEO’s, hopefully you realize your fate is in your own hands.  We still live in hope of you learning from your mistakes!  You don’t have to have accountability OR profits – they can go hand in hand.
